A Farm, Some Folding, and a Festival

Hello and welcome, everyone.  I am glad you could join us for another installment of Bodily Family Fun.  I hope you all are having a wonderful November.  It has turned quite chilly here in Dongducheon.  We have had a few lows below zero and a good bit of rain.  It is definitely hot chocolate weather ☺.  As you all are aware, time is flying by and Thanksgiving is fast approaching and our little family will be very busy in the coming weeks.  This past week was just the beginning.  So I hope you enjoy it.

On Wednesday, Darci and I attended one of the many Girl Scout events of the month.  We were able to go with the Korean Girl Scout troop to a farm, where the girls picked pears and dug for sweet potatoes.  They also got to see an array of animals, tools used by Korean farmers in earlier times, and take a ride on a miniature ferry, of sorts.

we got into a slight traffic jam because

the road we were on was only one lane wide!

after an hour on the road, we finally made it

started the hike UP to the potato field

we passed a South Korean army post along the way
the soldiers inside waved at us and even said "See you later" when I spoke to them

the view was beautiful

pretty fall colors

showing the girls how to dig the potatoes

on your mark, get set

dig

Now she can go dig the potatoes when we move back home!

The girls all got a few to take home.

we had to hike up the other side to pick the pears

they had picked the pears, wrapped them in paper,
attached them back to the tree so the girls could pick some

not exactly the way I thought they would be picking pears

a machine rings the bells attached to line throughout the orchard to scare away birds

the Korean Girl Scouts had a good time too

this is the only one I saw that was still growing on the tree

kind of small, but pretty

And that was all done in just 4 hours, including drive time!  I think we were all exhausted at that point, but we had another Girl Scout meeting the next day to start preparations for our Thanksgiving with our new friends.  The girls set about making hats for the skit, while the moms and leaders got busy on the cornucopias we are giving to each of the Korean girls.  We were all up to our eyeballs in twine, paper plates, and hot glue!  I am SOOOOO grateful to all of these lovely ladies for their help with the cornucopias!

Saturday seemed to arrive in the blink of an eye and we had kids over to play, a Korean culture class at our apartment complex to attend, and family fun night.

we were going to learn the "Art of Paper Folding"

Sunday turned out to be just as busy.  Dave and I took the kids to Seoul so we could go see the Seoul Lantern Festival and do a little shopping at the PX at Yongsan.  We spent the night and enjoyed a great Veteran's Day on Monday (but those pics will have to wait until next week)!  On the way down, we enjoyed some Pepero sticks in honor of Pepero Day, which is like Valentine's Day for Koreans. Except, it all revolves around this ONE snack.  It is on Nov. 11th because the sticks look like the number 1!

And now the Lantern Festival.  I am always amazed at the beauty of these paper lanterns.  The people that design these are true artists.  It is such a blessing that we got to go, even though it was cold and rainy!
